Bear attacks man on boat
A man was airlifted to hospital after being attacked aboard his boat in Port Renfrew marina on Vancouver Island by a black bear. It swam across the river, climbed on to a pontoon, and jumped aboard the boat while the victim was cleaning fish.

Neighbouring boat owners used boathooks and knives to fight off the 13-stone (80kg) bear, which died as a result, and the 52-year-old man was rescued despite suffering numerous lacerations. A local conservation officer said the attack was very unusual.

Local boat owners disagree, however, saying, "We had a problem with bears walking down the pier, going down the ramp and sitting in boats looking for food".
